Herniated Disc, Bulging Disc, and Degenerative Disc Disease

What Our Chiropractor Wants You to Know

If you're dealing with a back injury, it can be hard to know exactly what's wrong. A qualified chiropractor will be able to evaluate your condition and symptoms to diagnose your back injury. At West Hills Chiropractic Pain PC in Huntington, we're here to help you with back injuries. In between each of the vertebrae in the back is a soft tissue known as a disc. These discs work to protect the bones in your spine. Age, injury, and other factors can cause these discs to move, become misshapen, or degenerate. At West Hills Chiropractic Pain PC, we specialize in treatment of herniated discs, bulging discs, and degenerative disc disease.

Herniated Disc

When a disc herniates, a bit of the jelly like material inside of the disc protrudes through the tougher outer portion of the disc. Herniated discs can be painful, especially if the protruding material touches a nerve.

Bulging Disc

Over time, discs can flatten, making their perimeter protrude out further than normal. Imagine a hamburger that's a bit too big for its bun. That's what a bulging disc looks like sandwiched between two vertebrae. Bulging discs can cause pain, but they often go unnoticed.

Degenerative Disc Disease

Degenerative disc disease is a common, age related condition in which the discs between the vertebrae begin to break down. This lack of cushioning in the spine can lead to stiffness, weakness, and pain in the spinal column.
